We are Fatshark

We are an independent Swedish game development studio located in Södermalm, Stockholm. With about 90 experienced and skilled employees we have worked as contractors for a number of AAA projects, as well as developed titles with publishers and independently for both consoles and PC. Our most recent game is the critically acclaimed title Warhammer: Vermintide 2. We tackle every project, genre and setting with enthusiasm, professionalism and a cup of coffee.

The role

We are looking for a Game Designer with experience in developing progression and economic systems to strengthen our design team for Vermintide 2 and future projects! 

We are searching for someone with previous experience with these types of systems and how to build towards and constantly refine a live service over time. We want our games to engage players for a long time and always feel like they are being rewarded at the same time as they find new goals to strive for.

As part of the Design Team, Game Designers are responsible for deciding what a game consists of and how it plays, in cooperation with the Game Director. As a team, you will plan and define all the elements and components of a game, orchestrating how all those elements come together and get presented to the player. As a master of curation you will need to be adaptable when it comes to bringing complex systems together to take a player on a journey lasting years, without the need of an army of content creators dumping in content.

Responsibilities

  • Finding the right design for progression-related features from conception to final product
  • Modelling and balancing game economy and progression systems to work with the strengths of the team
  • Working with all designers to build towards a games as a service model, work with the design team to ensure all these aspects
  • Curating the onboarding experience for the player to ensure they get a grasp of the core of the game
  • Being able to communicate your vision to a multi-disciplinary team
  • Being able to take and give feedback in a straight and honest way
  • Together with the Game Director and the rest of the Design Team create a gameplay experience that is cohesive and engaging and stays true to the IP


Required qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience as a professional game designer
  •  Experience working on an active live service and evolved features within that service
  • Contributed extensively to the development of one or more shipped games for consoles and/or PC
  • Must work well in a team environment:
    • Strong communication skills
    • Takes and understands direction well
    • Meets deadlines and handles multiple tasks
    • Ability to collaborate with other team members


Bonus qualifications

  • Shipped at least 1 AAA or equivalent game
  • Strong knowledge of cooperative and/or multiplayer games
  • Background or education in game design theory/ludology
  • Programming and/or visual scripting experience
  • LUA knowledge
  • Knowledge of Vermintide 1&2
  • Strong Warhammer interest
