We are Fatshark

We are an independent Swedish game development studio located in Södermalm, Stockholm. With about 90 experienced and skilled employees we have worked as contractors for a number of AAA projects, as well as developed titles with publishers and independently for both consoles and PC. Our most recent game is the critically acclaimed title Warhammer: Vermintide 2. We tackle every project, genre and setting with enthusiasm, professionalism and a cup of coffee.

The role

We are looking for a Combat Game Designer to strengthen our design team for Vermintide 2 and future projects. We are looking for a senior game designer who has worked extensively with core systems related to player mechanics and combat - such as movement, weapons and enemies. You have worked on contemporary action games or first person shooters before, and would like to sit down and help us design, script and evolve similar systems here at Fatshark - for current and future projects!

As part of the Design Team, Game Designers are responsible for deciding what a game consists of and how it plays, in cooperation with the Game Director. As a team, you will plan and define all the elements and components of a game, including its setting, structure, rules, story flow, characters, objects, and devices available to the players.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop core mechanics, such as weapons, movement and enemy behaviour.
  • Iterate and tweak gameplay and adapt design from feedback
  • Be the driving force within a team to push quality and elegant design, while keeping the team motivated.
  • Help maintain the backlog, break down design into production items and support task definition and estimation.
  • Own and champion specific core mechanics efficiently, organized and self-motivated
  • Mentor junior team members and interns


Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience as a professional game designer
  • Must be able to show strong skills with core mechanics design, in particular second-to-second combat/action
  • Contributed extensively to the development of one or more shipped games for consoles and/or PC
  • Good scripting knowledge
  • Must work well in a team environment:
    • Strong communication skills
    • Takes and understands direction well
    • Meets deadlines and handles multiple tasks
    • Ability to collaborate with other team members


Bonus qualifications

  • Shipped at least 1 AAA or equivalent game
  • Strong knowledge of multiplayer and/or cooperative games
  • Background or education in game design theory/ludology
  • Programming and/or visual scripting experience
  • LUA knowledge
  • Experience working with character state machines and behavior
  • MOD experience
  • Knowledge of Vermintide 1&2 and it's core mechanics
  • Strong Warhammer interest
